Masunaga Optical was founded in 1905 in Fukui by Gozaemon Masunaga, who aimed to establish a thriving optical industry in the region.

To achieve this, he brought in skilled craftsmen from Osaka and Tokyo, determined to raise the standards of Japanese eyewear.

Initially, Fukui’s eyeglasses were considered subpar compared to global standards.

To change this, Gozaemon introduced a guild-like system, empowering craftsmen to hone their skills and eventually start their own businesses.

This initiative not only elevated the quality of eyewear but also expanded the optical industry throughout Fukui.

What sets Masunaga Optical apart is its fully integrated production process—the only one of its kind in Japan.

While most companies rely on multiple suppliers, Masunaga manages every step, from raw materials to final assembly, under one roof.

This meticulous control ensures exceptional detail and quality. For instance, when developing a new model, all molds are crafted in-house, allowing for immediate adjustments if issues arise, ensuring perfect wear comfort.
